Default NEW VERMILLION SNAP RULES

SO WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

Vermilion Snapper
(Species Description)

Regulation changes for Vermilion Snapper were approved at the December 2008 South Atlantic Fishery Management Council meeting and are expected to become effective sometime in early 2009. A meeting to review the Vermilion Snapper stock assessment was held in October 2008. Regulation changes for Vermilion Snapper were on hold pending the outcome of the stock assessment review. The outcome of that stock assessment review determined that while Vermilion Snapper are not overfished, they are undergoing overfishing (excessive fishing pressure) but at levels lower than previously thought. Management measure approved using these stock assessment results include:

Reduce recreational bag limit to 5 fish per harvester (was going to be 4 fish)
November - March seasonal closure for all fishers ( was going to be October-April)
Total Allowable Catch set at 960,350 pounds (was going to be 566,179)

Increase in commercial quota

I'm so sick of this f'n horse krap i could puke.

Sure wish this could get picked up by the cbs nightly news, etc.

Somebody needs to do something. Why aren't all the boat manufacturers, dealers, tackle manufacturers and dealers, up in arms? Why aren't WE up in arms?

as far as i know the SAFC has nothing to do with the Gulf regs. They just oversee the Atlantic regs.
