Default Need advice on a jigging combo

Hey guys,

I got the itch for a proper jigging rod instead of makeshift stuff I've been using.....I have scoped out a Saltist STT30th or a STT40H and a Diawa Saltiga Jigging rod 6.6 Med heavy....

I jig 3 to 7 ounce stuff in 100/200 ft....this rig will be around $250-275 off of E-bay.....(line not included)

What reel makes more sense? The narrow profile 30th or the wider 40H.....???

Or if someone believes they truly have a better combo in the same price range (up to appx $300) please advise me. Want to get something decent and matched when I spend my dough!

Im not a super pro but I would go with the STT30th. I bought two last year (after much research)and put them on Shimano Trevalas. The compactness is a plus when high speed jigging for any length of time. I believe my STT30this full after loading it with a300 yard spoolof 80 lb powerpro. So far I am really impressed with the Diawa. Im glad I chose them over the Torium. The biggest fish yanked up to date with the set up was a 33" AJ. Happy Hunting.........

In that price range you will not find a better reel. I have a 40 Saltist and have put some 50 or so pound ajs in the boat and 25 or 30 pound gags in the boat also. I also recommend you look at Hooper rods. They are a fantastic low end rod.

about the only thing I can add to this thread is to suggest that instead of spending your money on ebay, save it for a month or so and goto the outcast sale. Not only will you probably get a better deal, but you'll be supporting a local tackle shop

OK....Since I routinely use Outcast when I'm in PC , I'm more than happy to call them and give thema shot at helping me. Who at Outcast is the goto guy about jig rods and reels? I live up in TN and fish out of Dauphin Island or PC from the NAS......so I know the store and have been there a 1/2 dozen times but have not gotto really know the guys there....usually hustling to get on the Gulf!

AND...When is their usual "big Sale" dates?

I'm not sure who the goto jigging expert would beat outcast, but i do know that during the sale that shimano has a big area set up with their experts and all the newest gadgets for folks to play with and ask questions about. If you would like to talk to someone at outcast their number is 850-457-1450. I'll work on getting the dates of the sale for you, if i can't find them today I have to go by there tomorrow to pick up some parts and i'll get it then
