Default Limits on reef fish and commercial quotas

Just a thought. If the red snapper, all grouper and jacks are soooo depleted, why are commercial boats even allowed to fish for them? If they are threatened or endangered, shut em' down for everyone, commercial included. If rec guys can't fish, why should commercial? If you really want to level the playing field, make EVERYONE hold to the same limits, but, if a rec guy wants to pull up to Joe Pattis back door and sell 2 snapper for fair market price, go ahead. Let everyone be able to sell thier catch. Offset some of the high gas prices. Keep seasons open year round or give the fish houses quotas. When they are met, then shut it down.

Wade, that makes too much sense. All these people doing research and making up these BS laws wouldn't have a job if it were this simple I agree 100% though, if we cant fish for a species, then commercial shouldn't be allowed to either.

Wirelessly posted

Learn the facts, All commercial boats have a yearly quota. When there quota is reached they cant sell any more until next year. There is no way to see how much is recreationly caught so a season is imposed on recreational. Every fish sold must have a trip ticket made out by the purchaser. The trip tickets are how the quota is figured.

I know I oversimplified it. I know it is way more complicated than that. But, if the stocks are really stressed as NOAA says, why are commercial boats even allowed to fish either?

Simply because they are getting their palms greased by the lobbyists who pay the most for their investments. Their science is nothing more than horse hockey. If Snapper are endangered then I am the tooth fairy.

Hi there Mr. Fairy,

Just a note to tell ya that .25 cents may have been adequate in your great grandpa's day, so don't even bother dropping by with another coin deposit. Price is $5, and that will keep you from being blasted out of the sky, anything less, you are gonna be walking.
