Default Leader Shy Amberjack!

Mea coulpa, mea coulpa, mea maxima coulpa! I have to tip my hat to the guys that recommend using fluorocarbon leaders for Amberjack because I found out that the can be really leader shy. The perfect example is at the Ozark right now. Those fish have been hammered catch and release before season and hit harder after season opened.

Changing to a fluorocarbon leader, longer rod and a more aggressive stroke on the jig would trigger the occasional strike. So like all those guys said, if you can see them on the bottom machine but they have lock jaw.... shift to the fluorocarbon no see um leader material!

Lighter leader helps a lot as well. if they won't bite 80-pound, drop to 60 or 50 and see the difference.

I'm a believer now, never had a problem with the bite myself before but one of my friends went today and sure enough leader shy was the case. If the weather co-operates I'll go out there tomorrow with some folks and give it a shot myself.
