Default Leader rigging

Tried to do a search for rigging leaders and all I got was a derailed thread from a few years ago. I'm currently crimping a swivel on to 6-8' of 200# mono, but I wanted some more info about rigging a 10-12' wind-on. Trying to eliminate the swivel. Just looking for some opinions.

You can buy the wind on's but they are expensive. If you are using light tackle make a double line using a bimini or a 8 turn surgeons knot in the main line and connect the mono with a no name knot. It will wind on easily. If you are using braid as the main line an 8 turn surgeons knot is just as good as a bimini. Check out spanish fly's webpage and it will show you how.

OK, I have the same question and don't see it addressed in the Hull Truth Thread. I have and can rig the wind on to the line on my rod, but what about at the other end? I have crimped directly to the hook or lure to completely eliminate swivels (not great when it is time to re-rig) and have also crimped on a swivel at the end, but not sure what other are doing.

Did I miss what you are fishing for? With a 20' Polar (nice boat) I don't think it is for tuna unless you are chartering.

Blood knots maybe? I think that is the strongest to connect 2 lines without a swivel.

I dont know what your aversion is to Swivels. I have braid on my reels, i put a top shot on all of them of variying weights depending on what i am targeteing and then a snap swivel. Then i have number of rigged lures or bottom setups that i can switch quickly and easily to the snap swivel.

If it were me i would set up it with braid to top shot (80 lb mono) connect using a bimimi to an albright, then tie another bimini at the end of your mono and connect to a snap swivel with an offshore knot. Pull your marlin lures off the snip swivel, and when tuna fishing make some 10' Flouro leaders with a circle hook snelled and either put a crimped loop a the end or just tie a swivel to conect to the snap swivel. My $0.02.
