Default King macks

I'm new to king mackerel (primarily bay fisherman), but anyways I just want to learn the proper technique. I went out the other day, caught bait at the mass then just drifted with the baits out. I have a boat and can make a run offshore. Am I better off hitting the wrecks or drifting around the second sandbar?

Thanks,
Needle fish

You were there. The mass is a great start the key is the earlier the better. But all the wrecks usely hold a good amount of kings when I'm bottom fishing I always have a top line out with a dead cigar .this has even produced some nice dolphin .

We fished the mass Wed. plenty of bait. Had two hook ups. The first was foul hooked about 2 inches behind the jaw. Got him near the boat twice before he ran again and threw the hook. The second broke my partners very old 20 lb line like it was nothing. Others at the Mass stayed pretty busy with the kings. The highlight of the day was the bonita boiling the bait in the bay. Lots of fun on light gear.

On that subject (of King Macs) can someone tell me if they would still be running strong towards the end of August?
