Default King fishing in Oct

I may have a chance to make it down to the coast the first week or two of OCT, I know there is a limited snapper season but how is the King/Spanish fishing this time of year? What locations depths/tactics work best ? I've not been to OBA in the fall as I'm normally deer hunting..thanks !

King bite has been slower this year vs last year. Hopefully October it will pick up. A little cooler water normally puts the pelagics into overdrive, bulking up for their move to the south.

Live bait and dead bait mix over live bottom(staying away from the snapper). If the currents not too bad, I just drift with 2 -4 lines out.

I will troll, but not much. I will put two planers down each side of the boat and two flat lines over the planers further back. On the planers are Drone spoons and I use the old seawitch/cigar minnow combination on the flat lines.

Try trolling close to the beaches. I've picked up some trophy kings around this time of year trolling right around where the bait is. If your in Destin the sea buoy is a good place to start.

If the #40 leader material doesn't hold up....bump it up to #60.....The leader shy Kings will hit with the #40 better though......We use to lose some monsters with sevenstrand and ended up using single strand......
