Default Just saw this in a NACO Alert ...

NOAA Fisheries Service has published a proposed rule that, if approved and implemented, would establish a June 1 through July 31 seasonal closure for recreational harvest of greater amberjack in or from the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf) federal waters.

Have any of these yahoos gone out to the reefs and had to bat the jacks out of the way to get to the reef lately? Amberjack are as thick as fleas on a hounds south end. Not enough they closed the federal harvest for most of the season last year, for nothing, now they want to make it an annual imposition. What part of "height of the tourist season" don't these Feds understand???

Just my $0.02

There are many of us here in agreement with your 2 cents. Join the Recreational Fisherman's Association. The more membership grows, the squeakier we get.

I am a greedy bastard and don't generally "harvest" fish except to take the check out the fish I caught picture and then put em back. The more limitiations, the more fish there are for me to catch. Screw it, lock down everything and get numbers/sizes back to pre Hemmingway days.

I guess they figure we won't notice if they do it during snapper season. Very clever... Notice that the season isn't closed during a period of time critical to the reproduction of AJ's.
