Default Jigging Amberjack

What's the best you have done since season opened 1 August? The most in a single day and the biggest?

Kim I made a very, very short trip Saturday. We dropped a jig 6 times and put 4 Jacks in the boat. Nothing big though. 32''-38''.

The biggest on my boat this year was on a deep drop reel in 700' of water. A solid 70lb fish on a little ole piece of bonita. Go figure??

He was released though.

Caught a lot of small jacks this year. Towards the end of June our snapper spots loaded up with jacks. Had trouble using live bait to get to the snappers because of the jacks...went to dead cigs still caught jacks and finally went over to a half cig, but still had some jack issue. Did well on the edge with jigs, largest being bout 45lbs. A friend caught a 90 lb jack in 400ft of water fishing for grouper in late July.

We havent done a lot this year. We dropped one time on the Antares and pulled up a 38". Had electronics problems after that and called it a day.

Chad and I hit a spot and the majority of them were 25 - 29 inch range with a few keepers in between. At about 20 Chad had to manually open his fingers he was cramped up so bad.

Yes...that was a good day. Note to self, take time to stay hydrated and eat a little something no matter how good the fishing is.

As the weather cools the jigging will get better. Feb is normally when it has peaked for me.

I think we're going to start hitting the SW looking for some big Donkeys.
