Default Ive never been but...

According to the Texas game and fish website, the state of texas has no closed season on red snapper and the limit is 4 per person. This being the case, does anyone know if their snapper population is wiped out from overfishing? Ive never been over that way fishing offshore but maybe some forum menbers have and can answer this question.

They are in the same boat as us here in Florida. The difference is they told the Fed to drop dead, that they would not comply nor would they enforce the rediculous Snapper laws in Federal waters.

We get that Texans have stood their ground against the feds but the question from OP goes unanswered. Has the RS population have been wipe wiped out in Tx state waters due to their descision to non-comply to feds regs??? , and I guess the next question from OP, should florida follow Tx's lead?
I say absolutely....

I have a friend that lives in Port Aransas and gives me a report from time to time, He says anytime he wants big Snappers for the freezer , he has no problem in finding them.

Because the money comes from the commercial companies to the lobbyists who get laws passed to benefit the commercial guys. How many times have you been out throwing back huge snapper cause they are out of season while a commercial guy is pulling them up on a winch? And the majority of the ones they are catching and keeping would be under slot for us recreational fishermen.

It's all about the money!
