Default Help me plan my first trip!

So Memorial day weekend will be my first trip on the new to me boat out into the deep water. I want to catch some AJ's before they close it for Snapper Season, then try for some triggers, mingos, etc to fill up the fish box (thanks NOAA). Remember, I'm a complete rookie. If you were looking for a sure thing public spot, where would you go for the AJ's out of OB?

Feel free to PM me your private spot...yeah right.

Any large spot like the public barges have jacks on them rite now and are holding magnum BBs and triggers. The tanks have nice triggers as well. You'll just have to be ready to fight the snapper on anything you fish.

Should depth be my deciding factor - if so, how deep?

I generally feel like the deeper you go the less pressure and usually larger jacks

What is the maximum distance you feel comfortable running? Without a doubt, deeper water = bigger jacks.

CHEVRON RIG N30:04.242 / W87:02.120

TENNECO RIG N29:59.761 / W87:05.085

These would be where I would go for nice AJs. AJs like tall structure. These are decommissioned oil rigs. They have a lot of structure to them.

For a shot as some grouper I would go to Paradise Hole or the Edge. Mingos are hit and miss but once you find them you can usually load up.

Dang, I just uploaded that into a GPS program. I thought the Chevron and Tenneco were Southwest of Perdido Pass. I've never been. I'll have to give it a shot and then maybe head over to the edge or the Trysler grounds for grouper.
