Whats everyones favorite grouper bait and way to catch em??

Rubys always seem to work good for us, we sabiki them most of the time. Pretty much any grunt will do the job. Lizard fish are like crack to them if you can get your hands on them.

My favorite is large frozen menhaden. We used to call them "grouper popsicles". The trick is to push your thumb through their side before you send them down to get the juices flowing. Makes its own chum slick down there. Another trick is to let your weight lie ON the bottom so it doesn't jump up and down with the wave motion of the boat. Catch the shy, educated ones. Good luck.

I will second menhaden but we butterfly them, as well as large mullet and northern mackerel butterflied.
