Default Fishing Advice in OB This Weekend

We are heading to OB this weekend and the kids want to go fishing. I have absolutely zero experience fishing the gulf other than bottom fishing for Snapper - we did catch a few cobia and triggers in the process. We've been as far as 25 miles out from the pass. While we'd love to catch something edible, we would also love to hook up to something for the pure joy of hearing the line fly off the reel. I've read a few posts about fishing for dauphins and that does sound fun, but I have no idea where to look for them or what to fish with. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I'd head offshore after AJs or try trolling for kings. If that's not an option I'd hit the pier and float a cig for kings or maybe a poon.

Thanks PurpleNGold. How far offshore for the AJs? What is the best bait/tackle for AJs? Thanks again.

Default ob fun

Hey i had to reply on your post, I am not a pro at saltwater fishing by no means, but i do pretty well and have learned alot on this forum. not much on AJ's but they are fairly bout same technic as snapper fishing, you definatly need some heavey tackle. If you want some fun, get you some #1 & #2 planers and troll spoons, 5 kts, from 1 mile off beach out as far as you want to go, get you a hiltons map, troll around reefs, wrecks, etc. You will catch all kinds of fish. Bonitos, spanish, kings, jack cravelle, etc. I did it a week ago, had a ball.! Caught alot in bout 60 to 80 feet of water. hope it helps!!
