I usually with change my whole leader and hook out after catching one of these. It seems the other fish won't bite as good after I catch one and he slims my line up good. The name comes from the soap like excretions it gives off when you catch it. Like it was already said they will kill all your bait if you put it in the live well. I don't see a need to put it in there though since I don't think anything eats them.

Edit: I just looked it up and the fish secrets a poison when it is agitated as a defense that suds up like soap and is poisonous so that predators won't eat it.
