Default filing a float plan

How many of you actually file a float plan with someone to notify the coast guard if you don't show back up at a certain time? Also who do you file it with?

I always leave a note or tell the wife who's going and where. We did get hailed once when we were late. Always good to tell someone.

The wife always knows, I write it down in a dry erase board on the side of the fridge. when I'm on charter, I snap a picture of the log showing whos onboard with their emergency contact numbers and text a picture to the wife along with the 2-4 spots (areas) we'll be fishing and approx return time. Once I drop the riders off, I text her letting her know I'm alone and headed to the ramp, once at the ramp,I text her to let her know im on land and will be home when the clean up is completed.... someone almost always knows my plans....

I tell the wife, or if she is with me, we tell one of our kids- Then..... Maybe a bit much- but I have a form I fill out in the truck. Detail of who is with me, vessel description, our planned stops, etc. We pretty much keep to the schedule. Make it back to the ramp according to our plans-

Same applies to inland fishing as well no matter if it's the bay or river. I fish alone a good bit on the river. My neighbor always knows the general area where I will be fishing and when I am suppose to be back home.
