Default Dolphin in Close?

Being cooped up in the house with this nasty weather, I've been itching to make it offshore this week/weekend. I'm looking for a break from the usual King, Spanish, Bonita hookups.

I really want to find a school of dolphin, even chickens. I've heard reports of significant sized schools within 12 miles. I know I need to find a good weedline to find dolphin, but sometimes its not that simple.
If I do find a weedline, will I find dolphin under the 12 mile mark?

ANYTHING floating will attract Mahi as long as it has been in the water awhile. Well, anything as big as a 5 gallon bucket and larger. But it has to have been in the water awhile.

I've seen them inside 12 miles, but not often. But if you see something floating throw a piece of squid on a hook near it. If you get one hooked the trick is to leave that one in the water and throw more baits in the water... No harm to chum with small pieces too. Once you hook up a second fish, leave that one in the water and pull the first one in... Rinse, repeat. Sometimes it helps to twitch the bait with a lot of smaller pieces as chum around it.

Typically you can get a half dozen or so this way if the chickens are there.

Jim

Though the Kayakers catch them a couple miles off the beach. It AMAZES me what those boys and girls catch off the beach.

Twice this year I've seen them on a tideline less than 3 miles from the beach off Fort Walton.

When you throw on the weedlines, should you use any weight or just freeline the bait back to the weeds?
