Noe. You're right. State waters are open but snapper is closed.

Red snapper fishing in Florida state waters is closed. FWC is currently seeking public comment on reopening the season.

Let me tell you my story. Friday (30 Jul) Walmart in Navarre posted on their board Snapper season was extended until Aug 15. I called the FWC Hotline to confirm. After a little confusion they confirmed the Governor had signed the extension. I set out of Destin early Satuday Morning (31st). I flaged an FWC officer down and he confirmed. Today (4 Aug) I wa looking for the official word. It is nowhere to be found. I called the FWC hotline and they said "Snapper season has been closed since 23 Jul". I read the Governors request to NOAA to extend the season and I am confused. I understand NOAA controls federal waters by Crist controls State waters. He could extend it right nor for State waters. I think he doesn't want to upset the Feds.

That is pretty interesting. I hadn't heard of there being a letter from the governor.

I got stopped by FWC in the pass coming back in on Saturday. They stopped another boat right after me. The guy with me saw them take some fish and write a ticket. I'm not sure what kind of fish they were, they may have just been undersized fish of another species (Can they take fish for not having a license?). The boat that got the ticket didn't look like it was tourists down for the weekend. It was a center console seriously rigged to fish, complete with a ling tower.

Maybe someone's idea of what the season should be doesn't exactly coincide with the State and Federal seasons. I've heard of some of that going around.

Any confirmation on this? There are a half dozen reports with snapper from the last week. Before I keep any tommorrow I'd like to know if anyone has 100% confirmation (like in print on a gov. website).

Check myfwc.com it says that Red Snapper season closed July 23, 2010. No gray area there.
