Default Destin King fishing?

Where is the best place to troll for them close to the pass? Also what lures and baits work best?

As far as lures go, many folks use a feather duster baited with a cigar minnow. I have just about as much luck with plugs, the big Rapala in blue and silver.

I am not sure how close to the pass you want to fish and it may not make a lot of difference since the fish at times are scattered around. One plan would be to troll out toward the bridge rubble starting just outside the pass. If you are going early in the morning, I have had fish hit right near the pass. Another plan would be to come out of the pass and start trolling to the west, staying a mile or two south of the beach. And finally, I have a lot of luck heading south of the fishing pier and out toward the liberty ship.

Use a cast net or a sabiki rig to catch live bait. Troll the live baits on the surface early in the morning or late in the evening. Look for flocks of birds or schools of bait to troll around. I have had good luck in the 40-60 foot deep range in the kayak. If you fish during the middle of the day try trolling a stretch 25 to get down deeper where the fish will be that time of day.
