Default Destin Area Fishing?

I don't know where else to post this, as I couldn't find a Destin Fishing forum, so here it goes.

I am going on a trip with the in-laws on 05/21 on the Swoop. We chose the party boat route because out of six, I am the only one with offshore fishing experience. I figured it was a cheap way to gauge their interest in it, and if they like it we can find a nice private charter next year.

Anyway, I am curious about the fishing before red snapper season. Since the gubment decided to lower the catch on the reds several years ago, it's almost like the fishing isn't worth as much. Now, what can we expect to catch in late May? Mingos? Amberjack? Black fin? I like to bring my own rig, so what are your recommendations? What bait does the boat supply? Was wanting to pick up some cigar minnows, but if they supply them there is no need. Thanks in advance guys.

If you have braid on your own rig check with the boat before you come down. Some or most Charters and Party boats don't let you use braid. Other than that use whatever is the most comfortable for you and most of all have fun.

Already checked on the braid, not allowed . Any idea what's biting what right now?

Swoop provides an abundance of squid, and rarely break out the cigar minnows, last time they told me they use cigs during red snapper season and avoid it out of season because they don't want their patrons catching what they can't keep, defeats the purpose. If you can get some of your own cut bonito I would take that.
Not sure if they will let you bring your own live bait like pinfish but they do have a large livewell, if you tell the crew you want to catch Amberjack they'll keep some of the smaller fish people catch in the livewell and throw it on for ya and tell you where to put it in the column.

Will do on the AJs. As far as bonito, where around Pensacola could I catch them, and on what bait? Should I use a sibiki rig? I'm staying in Pensacola (32526 zip, grandmother's house), yes I'm afraid I'm one of the dreaded tourists but been coming here for the last 8 years. Grandpaw ain't around anymore for advice, so now I turn to you guys.

You might be able to buy a whole frozen bonito at Half Hitch for around 5 bucks.

Why the rule against braid?
