Default deep drop rigs

Anybody know how to rig a deep drop rig where the weight breaks off when hooked up on a fish?

Default logically.....

If you have a 4 lb weight and can stand to lose a few....
use a couple of foot 10 lb section of mono betwixt the weight and the main leader.

It works, but if the fish isn't big enough you get your weight back sometimes.

The formula we used was swivel then dropper hooks (up to 6) then light mono then weight.

Hope that helps.

rubber bands and copper wire work as well, do a search for swordfish rigs and a few descriptions will come up but very few diagrams

If you deep drop a lot you will find that sacrificing lead sinkers can add up to a bit of cash. You may want to try something like short sections of PVC pipe filled with sand or cement with a 10 lb mono loop at the top for terminal connection. The diameter and length of the pipe will determine you weight.

another trick is to use long wire ties on bricks along with some good ole american grey duct tape... Three bricks stacked long way should work fine...

I too use the PVC and concrete. Very cheap.
