Default A Day of Hooky

The weather finally broke and I had to ask the boss for a day off! Left Ben's Lake marina at 6:30, stopped at the Destin bridge for some threadfin and was headed south by 7:00. The bite was fast and some of the best fishing I can remenber.
Lesson's learned:
Big live bait for the big snapper.
If your on the vermillian, bring them up slow and you may trade em for a cobia! (true story)
Keep a second pole handy; the cobia and big snapper are following hooked fish.
Check the small grass too!
Bad Lesson's learned:
Never throw at a bonnita when you're next to your marker bouy! Tangled one up, broke the line and the fish took my bouy... I seen it come up two or three times but every time I got close it went under like a brim cork! And finally... it was gone

Alll in all a great day and back on the trailer at 11am.

Sure looked like a ghost day for you. I am going out of Pensacola in the am. If you are in the Crestview Winn Dixie look me up. Alex

I'm leaving out of Ben's Lake in the morning. How far out did you go? Did you see any weed lines? I see you said check the small grass too. How small are you talking?

Thanks

John

We caught these chickens off a 50 ft thin grass bed 12 miles out! We checked three beds! All the others were 17 miles south of the pass.

How is your boat? I was out the day u had issues. Not bad I hope

There are a lot of cobia on the turtles and deep structure.

Good luck! I'll be back out Sunday when I can keep the gag!

It must be a different boat. My boats fine. The only issue I have had is figuring out my new fish finder. Thanks for the info though and good luck on Sunday.
