Default Conventional reels for deeper water

Anyone have ideas on a good combo for deeper water bottom fishing? 180+ I'm thinking a TLD 30 2 speed may be a good option. Thoughts?

What is your budget? There are smaller, lighter reels with high drag capacity that will get the job done.

I have a Tyrnos 12II that is great for deep water. Two speed is a plus, low gear for the big fish, high gear to get the hook back to the boat for a re bait.

What's the target and depth?? I.e. Grouper, Snapper- 200-400 ft? Honestly, you could use a TLD20-30 or Squall.... Much deeper and you'll probably want to consider electric.

I have several Shimano Torium 20s and 30s. Everyone loves the high gear ratio for deeper water. Gets you back up to rebait or move lots faster than the Squalls I have. Sweet reals for the money and drag is smooth and strong.Light weight is a plus as well.

Penn fathom 2 speed lever drags are pretty compact with a lot of drag. Relatively inexpensive as well, they have great reviews. They'll probably be what I upgrade to

I have became a big fan of the fathom reels. That would be my recommendation if you are on a budget.
