Default Cobia In May

This is my first post, been lurking for a while and decided to join ya'll. I will be making a trip to Orange Beach the first weekend in may for a bachelor party and we were planing to take a nice booze cruise on a buddies boat. My question is will we still have a good shot at cobia that weekend. I read the earlier post on this section that said sight fishing for cobia is good through the end of may. We are all new to cobia. How far off the beach do we fish? What are we looking for? We will be on the hard top of a 48' viking, will they be easy to spot, or are they hard to spot? We fished the first weekend in April, but did not spot any, while we were cruisingand lookingI had a fake eel trolling behind the boat. Has anyone ever had luck trolling for cobia. Any info would help.

Thanks

dont waste your time trolling. get as many guys on top of that bridge or tower without becoming a clusterf*ck and just keep your eyes peeled for big brown or purple logs (depending on water color/clarity). easiest on a southeast wind as it pushes them up closer to the beach and makes it easier for them to swim (as opposed to a wind outta the west). cobes are migrating from east to west. easier to spot generally closer to destin because of water color over there (no mobile river muddying it up). have a couple spinning rods ready; one with a jig and another with a live eel. makes for a very relaxing day of fishing, assuming you dont get into a big wad of them.

I would find some structure and anchor up and chum. Cobia tend to hang around structure during May. Especially the first part of May. Set out live baits on top near the boat and near the bottom.
