There were a couple in my freezer this morning.

I'm sure there are still plenty within the first couple miles of the beach.

Thereare more boneytoes on the edge then anyone can handle. But not one blackfin in the bunch. Last week end you could catch all you wanted. Why would anyone want to catch one? Besides reeling practice and untangling other lines. As bait they bring in sharks, I don't know of to many people eating them. I am ranting. Gene

The only reason why I am asking is because i fish mostly off of the Okalosoa isalnd pier and this time of year unless you want to sit on your butt all day waiting for that one pompano or redfish, Bonita are the next best thing, plus if you know what your doing you wont get line twists or knots

these were caught on bonita slabs, and plenty more. great bait!!

this warsaw isn't the actual one caught on bonita, but we did get one 72#, 32# on capt'n rogers boat last year. so catch'em and freeze'em and slab'em. great bait.

There are giant schools of bonita right now east of destin pass everywhere from the bar out to 1 mile out. Look for the birds and throw a pomp jig or a spoon.

On your post you asked were to catch them? But posted in the offshore section. I have no way of knowing you were on a pier. I see were you are coming from now. As for using them for bait. Yes, bonita catches lots of groupers, snapper, triggerfish, mingo and so on. But ask yourself this question why do shark fisherman use blackfin, barracuda and bonita for their chum slick? Just a thought. Gene

I guess I would have to partialy go with the other rant. Not a big bonita fan myself. They make great strip baits and I certainly use them and even freeze the strips for later but I have never targeted bonita. Guess I just make use of them as by catch. But hey, guess you have a point... Better to have them stretching a line than sitting on the couch.
