Default Big Snapper

I have been out the past few weeks catching decent size snappers 12-15lbs. I have brought a few about 20 up but keep losing the bigger ones. What kind of tackle should I use to keep these guys in and buck them up.....Do I need to pound the drag down or just let it run? I hate getting broke off but hate pulling the hook even more. Any information is helpful...thanks

You can loosen the drag once you have him well off the wreck or reef, then when he dogs down you will still get to endure the sudden surge and your line won't break.

This. Also, with circle hooks just start reeling, don't jerk the rod.

Heavy braid and lots of drag pressure until you get him well off the wreck, then you can back the drag off some if you want/need to
