Default Big Snapper ?

Hey guys I have been trying to catch some big snapper of 15 pounds plus but the only luck I have had is about 10 pounds or so, I am using 50 pound flourocarbon leader and a 7/0 circle hook with live pinfish about handsized, any advise on how to catch the big ones would be awesome thanks in advance

I've been getting bigger ones actually on large dead baits more than live. Last Sunday I caught a 29lb fish on a Northern Mackerel rigged knocker style with a 1 oz egg weight. The Majority of our bigger snapper this year have been on the same rig fished much higher in the water column. I would say try to keep the bait in the upper 40ft of the water column and you will start seeing an increase in bigger snapper. YI caught my PB snapper on fly last Thursday within 20ft of the outboards. We weren't chumming them up either, the bigger fish have just been much higher. That snapper was just over 20lbs and was hell on the long rod. Your leader and hooks size should be fine, but try to mix in some larger dead baits.

Bring some Northern Mackerel and even small (1-2lb) Spanish Mackerel out with you. A Spanish Mackerel is not going to get eaten by anything small! Don't be intimidated by a big bait, there is a fish down there big enough.

Fish up current of the structure, not right on top of it, and bigger the live bait the better in my experience.

Forgot to mention the upcurrent part. Most of the 20+lb snaps we got last week were well upcurrent of the main structure.

Caught several today in the mid 20's all on dead bait. Caught a cobia on a ruby red lip and kings ate the rest of the live bait. All the big fish were caught between 40-50 ft in 115ft of water.

I agree that the bigger snapper are off of the wreck and not right on it.
