Default Bait Fish Question

Anyone have any ideas about getting bait? I've been hitting all the channel markers, shallow rigs and anything else I see on the way out and haven't gotten the first baitfish. I've fished from piers and the beach for ever and always catch my own bait with Sabiki rigs and certain jigs but I haven't been able to catch any offshore. I have been getting a late start and I know that from the piers the bait scatter at sunrise but you can still get some periodically throughout the day. Do you have to hit it before sunrise or close to that time?

Any suggestions would be helpful. By the time I realize it's not happening I'm too far to go back to buy bait and it's getting frustrating. On a pier I can fill up my bait bucket in 5 minutes. Now, my live well has been empty the past several trips. I'm going to try it before sunrise next time and hopefully that will make the difference.

...tip your sabiki with squid and put it down...

...if you see bait on top, bring out a pompano jig or if they are big baits like bigger blue runners and bonito, throw out a bubble with clarkspoon or any shiney spoon / jigon the end.

Once the sun gets up the bait goes down and becomes less active. early is better.

If you can find a private dock or some place where no one will steal them, invest in some pinfish traps.
