Default back from deployment now what?

Hello a friend while on deployment recommended this site to me so I could get some pointers on fishing in the gulf mainly jigging. Last year I bought a boat to fish here outta destin but only got to go a handful of times caught some grouper/snapper was fun but I really would like to try vertical jigging for amberjack, I have the gear but not the knowledge, So was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on where these guys might hang out here in destin and the best way to jigg i would be highly grateful to you. I recently bought a shimano torium 20 reel / jigging rod, and a Canyon HS15 reel + ro was told these are good for jigging. Thanks!

I don't know about Destin. But the Aj's usually hang out around the metal wrecks and the ledges/ drop off's around the Edge. Fast retrieve seems to be the key for them, more a reaction strike. Sometimes ya gotta weed through a bunch of smaller ones to get a good one. Also we caught some Almaco's around the edge. If ya think your cranking fast enough, crank faster! Good Luck. Welcome Back and hope ya find em.

Welcome home, and THANK YOU for your service. Drop the jig to the bottom and reel n jerk it as fast as you can to the top, if nothing happens drop to the bottom and try again. You will also catch grouper on a jig on the bottom.
