Triggers= squid and small hooks double or triple drop rigs, Salt dried mullet works good to, mainly just need something to stay on hook..they are sneaky.
AJ's= big live baits, bigger the better have seen 70-90lb jacks inhale 3-4lb live bobo's. Big lively hard tale is hard for them to turn down evertime I have targeted AJ's.

Jigging is my favorite way to catch jacks....the only problem is it is very addictive...before you know it you will have a small fortune invested in jigs, jigging rods, reels........but you can't beat dropping a piece of lead with a hook down and catching fish!

What about targeting AJs without sonar? I know it can be done, but is it feasible? I won't be able to replace my Lowrance unit until after the season opens.

As long as you have public spots or your own with a GPS you'll be fine. Drop a live bait to see if they are there then jig for them. Or vice versa. But AJs are fun!

Find some large steel structure in the 15 to 20 mile range and you will find good jacks. Jigging is the best way to wear them out.
