I save and freeze leftover meat bones and fish heads from previous days out... they are either there or not and they aren't too finicky. Push comes to shove; the bait guy is cheaper to get from than buying frozen... works for me.

Default Fish heads &

My pinfish trap get loaded with left over trimmimgs and heads as bait. After cleaning fish, I save the heads and carcasses, freeze them and use as bait. Over night I will get 15 to 30 pinfish. I use dark colored line to the trap and set it in about the same place off the end of my dock.
It works!

Fish carcasses, heads and trimmings are the best bait for a pin fish trap.
