Good question. I would compare this storm more to Katrina then Ivan. I know after Ivan, it was phenomanal.

What was it like after Katrina?

I don't think it will be as good as after Ivan or Opal. They came from the other direction and pushed the fish our way.

Ivan's trackwas almost identical to Gustav untilit turn due north and hit us. Agreed Opal was quite different coming out of the bay of Campeche.

Unless we think there weren't any fish before the storm between here and thetip of Cuba, I'd think the fishing would improve.

Sorry to oke at you, but I hear folks make the same comment after every storm. Is it reallly as simple as the storm pushing the fish? It seems like temp, chlorophyll levels, etc. would be worth looking at.

So how do wefind them dang fish.

We are sitting here in Atlanta trying to decide if we should come down this week. My brother flew in from Chicago on Sunday for a long planned fishing trip. Timing was great so we are golfing instead. He has to be back here Sunday for his flight home, so we are considering Thursday,Friday, Saturday. How does the water ( color. garbage) look? Any reports to conditions or on actual fishing would help. I rarely fall fish and have no post storm experience as to when they get back on their feed.

As far a bottom fishing out of Destin, the storm I remember having the biggest impact was Isadore in 2002. We really loaded up with grouper. After Ivan, we found some snapper and grouper at close in spots, they were all beat up and rough looking, but in the 2-10 mile range we didn't find much. This storm didn't throw near the seas that Ivan did so maybe we will see a pick up in red and gag grouper. Hope so cause grouper fishing has been slow on the close in spots.

I plan to go Sunday. The forecast looks good and am curious to see what has moved in.

From many past experiences we do better after a storm if the hurricane takes a closer path than Gustav did.
