Default Navarre 05/13/08

I went out for trout at the little Navarre Bridge last night only to learn that I had broke my rod tip off in the tailgate of my truck. However, I like to make the best of every situation so I decided to go gigging. Two of my friends who almost never fish and have never been gigging also came. In no time I spotted a 15 incher ib about knee deep water and instructed my friend to stick it in the head. He did just that and soon immediately realized why I like the sport so much. I soon spotted a bed and pointed it out. Both of my friends did not believe that a depression in the sand indicated flounder were nearby and soon started with making comments about little flounder pillows in the beds etc. This ended when I stuck another 15 incher, again about knee deep. On the way back towards the bridge I found another large bed but the wind picked up and started making ripples that distorted our view. We never found him. Oh well, he?s for next time. The flounder were served up with some crabs we netted as soon as we returned. I would have liked more fish but it was an enjoyable night and I introduced to more people to gigging so I consider it a good night.

Just a side note, I also gigged a 16 incher last week so they are out there. However the area east of the bridge is featureless so one you have to cover a lot of ground.
