Last Friday Night
I had my mind set to go floundering last Friday night even though the wind was not right and I could not find anyone to go. I quit fishing at night by myself years ago when I stumbled onto a murder scene on Scenic Highway, however up until then I really enjoyed the time alone on the water, so against my wife's better judgement, I went by myself. The first place I tried to go was so windy that I could not even put the boat in the water, so I went over to Navy Point. The islands at Navy Point only produced a number of drunks camping so I made my mind up to ride over to Ft. Pickins. The wind was out of the west and around 9-10 MPH so I knew that I could not see good enough to flounder, however it was nice and peaceful so I decided to just pick up some crabs along the beach. While letting the wind blow me easterly along the beach and sorting through tons of female crabs I happened up on 2 flounder. The moral of the story is to go enjoy some time on the water and you never know what you might do.

There was a short story in the Saturday Evening Post about 25 years ago that I really appreciated because I like to fish alone at night too. The story made me look at being alone on the water a little differently. The guy hooked up a manta ray that wrapped him around something in the water and almost drowned him. I wish that i could remember the name of the story because it was an edge of your seat read. Seems like the setting was over in St. Augustine.
