Default Which HPS lights?

I am currently wanting to upgrade my halogen to HPS. I currently run 4 500 watt halogen. I am wanting to run 4 HPS lights but i dont want no big bulky light on the front of my boat so can someone post a link for some HPS lights that are the size or maybe a little bigger then the halogen work lights.

I'm currently in the same boat as you. I have also been running the four halogens and wanting to go to HPS. I think the site I saw them on was Econolight.com or something like that but they were sold out until a certain date. You may want to check. With the HPS I'm reading that I'm going to have to do some special configurations with capaciters and ballasts which is pretty foreign to me. I've had a couple people tell me the 400s but I find those alittle bulky and most likely rather run 4 250s. I'm yet to actually figure it out. I'm sure X-Shark will chime in. He knows what he's talking about.

I run 5 150watt hps lights on a honda 2500 without anything else done to them without any problems. I just start up 3 when they warm up i start the other two. I have been using the same lights and bulbs for 3 to 4 yrs now.

Wirelessly posted

If you are currently running 4 500 watt halogens , there will be no need in doing the capacitors. The capacitors will lower the amps drawn while the HPS lights start up, the amps will be very similar maybe even less than what the halogen light are drawing continuously.
