Went last night 30 minutes outside New Orleans. I didn't have any expectations of gigging many. Searched a little before I found decent water. I saw a ton of 6-8 inch fish. Good to see that mommas are breeding well. Also saw quite a few small beds. Didn't really see any big beds. Finally starting getting a few around 14 inches. Right before I was going to head in saw a silhouette in deeper water, but the current was pushing my boat too fast. While trying to turn the boat around without muddying up the water, I accidently pulled the wires for the light off the battery. The fish was easily 4 lbs and I couldn't find him. Oh well, that is why they call it fishing and not catching. Two minutes later I saw its brother and he was nice. Didn't realize how big he was till I measured and weighed him this morning. He went 22 inches and a little over 5 lbs. I ended up with 6 fish and one that slid off the gig. Not bad for my first trip this year.
Nice mess of fish anytime and especially for the first trip of the year. Congrats
Nice mess of fish....and don't worry....there's always next time for the brother fish you missed. That's the fun and the "addiction" of it lol Hope we have at least the same luck this week. Going to try and hit the water before the chance of t-storms moves in for the weekend. Have a good one!
