Had a good day of whiting, croaker, and a big bluefish despite the wind. I also hooked two sharks. One never slowed, but I got the second one back to within 50 yards before it cut the mono. I was excited, but it looked over 6 feet. It thrashed, but did not jump or spin like blacktips and spinners I have caught. The tail looked unusual to me I have attached a crude drawing. Not much to go on. Can anyone ID?
Can you say where, and how far out in the surf? I have lousy luck from the beach this time of the year, but I keep reading how good it is. Go figure. Must be missing something.
And Whiting is one of my favorites. Put up a good fight, and yummy.
I fish on the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge. I try to find deep water close to the sand. With the wind today, I was only about 10-20 feet from the beach. I think closer is a little better for whiting.
