Unhappy Weekend devoid of fish...6/21-6/22

I started out my weekend fishing off of Pensacola's beach in search of those elusive Pomps on friday night. The sand flea raking was easy, but the June grass made fishing difficult to say the least. I caught a couple lady fish...yay...and then stocked up on sand fleas for my weekend of fishing.

Set up on the beaches again, trying to stay more westward on Pensacola's beaches, early Saturday morning with plenty of live fleas. At 6am I caught three lady fish.....yay again....and about 60 total lbs of June grass. A pomp simply won't bite anything covered in so much of it. I gave up on the beaches at around 11am. I'd trade catching just about anything besides the June grass. That stuff is miserable. I hope someone else faired better than I. Tight lines....minus the June grass!!! YRM

It was like that a couple weeks ago in Navarre, I couldn't even keep my bait out because the grass would cover my line and roll it in with the waves

First post. I am new to surf fishing and it was a miserable day on Saturday. The grass on my swivel was slippery and took ten minutes to remove. How do you keep fleas alive overnight.

Leave em on the beach... ;-)

Seriously... I've never had them live more than a few hours. I usually only have 4 or 5 in my bucket. I dig em as I need em.

get a colander in a bucket put a little bit of wet sand at the bottom. that will keep them for a few days. make sure you keep them cool.

I learned a great way to keep fleas alive for a few days from one of my buds. Buy yourself some Strawberries, in the clear plastic container, then reuse the container. Line the bottom with some paper towels, to absorb their wastes, as this is what kills them. Keep em in a cool place out of standing water, and sand, like a cooler. Suspending them over ice helps to keep them even longer. If you're not going to be using them within a couple of days, just leave em at the beach, and let them repopulate. YRM

Thanks for the advice. I like to have 20-30 for the next morning and not start the day off chasing them.
