Default Surf fishing questions

First of all, great shark videos and pics. That looks like a lot of fun and you all seem like professionals when it comes to fishing!

I'm heading down to Seagrove Beach for the weekend and I'd like to do some surf fishing Saturday and Sunday morning and I have a few questions if you don't mind answering:

1. Where's the best place to pick up some bait around Seagrove Beach? or should I just look for sand fleas?

2. What's the best size hook / weight for catching redfish/whiting/pompano? I realize that bigger fish call for bigger hooks, but if I just wanted to catch some whiting, pomps and small reds what would be the most practical hook and weight size?

Thanks for any and all replies and if you can add any other info, I'd greatly appreciate it!!

I love the Owner Mutu light, #1 or #2. Weights will vary with sea conditions.

You can get live bait on the north side of the Highway 331 bridge in Freeport. As for tackle, use a gulf rig or carolina rig with a 3-4 oz weight. A size 1 or 2 hook always seems to work well. Good luck

Thanks for the replies. I did look at the old posts but couldn't find anything on bait shops. Didn't find many specifics on weights or hooks either but probably didn't look hard enough. Every one have a safe and fun weekend!

Fished for 2 hours early Sat morning with dead shrimp- no bites

Fished for about 4 hours Saturday afternoon right before sunset with dead shrimp- no bites

I met a lot of curious Canadians who were walking down the beach and the owners of the bait shop on 30-A just down the street from Seaside were really cool and very nice! I hope to get back when it's warmer.

ps. The sushi at Old Florida Fish House was awesome and there were tons of fun college kids Saturday night. Very nice looking crowd!
