Default Shark questions

What is the best bait? Hook Size?
How do you get the bait out further without a kayak?
I am interested in any good advice that anyone will donate also....

I'm not as hardcore as some of these guys but I use a 9/0 and use live lady fish and white trout. you can wade til you can barely keep the pole out and cast but I suggest buy a $100 cheap-o yak from adventure unlimited or craigslist and paddle them out further

I've read about people using bait balloons to carry their bait out at low tide. I've haven't tried it, but I'm planning on giving it a shot when I get down there in June.

From what I've read, anything oily will work as bait. Ladyfish, white trout, but apparently cut up cow-nose ray and barracuda tails work best.

As for hook size, I'm bringing 9/0 to 16/0 circle hooks but I've seen guys on here go bigger.

I haven't found anything better than blue runners, fished live. Size 12/0-15/0 circle hooks. Had 11 live blue runners on in a 3 day span last week, every single one got hit. Bluefish are great as well. Longest soak maybe 90 minutes. Ladyfish work too. Don't seem as hardy though, and I think live bait out-fishes considerably. If dead is all you have, it'll still work, just might have to wait longer and lose bait more often. I like using heavy (600+) fluoro or mono leaders, 9 ' or more, with breakaway weight slides on the mainline (500 yds of 50# mono. Like using beads on both sides of slide.

Remember a balloon only works with a north wind, unless fishing the sound-side of the beach.

any bigger bait is always good. cownose ray being number 1 on my list. its tough and lasts forever (crabs cant pick at it) the bonita. you can use any fish but stingrays are by far the best. i also use a 20/0 hook. some people swear by j hooks but i will never use them. for any more info hit up troys site at sharksonthesand.com all the info you could possibly imagine. and as far as getting a bait out. swim or board that bait to the middle-end of the first gut. you will hook up
