Went out to the east pass with mom and pops for fathers day. Started fishing around 10am. Caught a hardtail on a spoon with in 10 min, put a chunk on the biggest set up i had and launched it out and went back to thowing the spoon. About 20 min later the the rod started singing but lost what ever it was right after. Throw it back out and got a cat. Well third times a charm , rod goes off again so i tell pops to go for it. This time were hooked up, and the fish isnt slowing down. I run over and tight the drag down for him, after about 2 1/2 compleate turns on the drag we finally slowed it down. Pops fights for about 5-10 mins and hands me the rod. I fight it for another 20 and we finally get a look at it. Turns out to be a 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 ft shark. Got it all the way to the lip of the sandbar but couldnt get it over, and i wasnt going in waist deep water to pull it in. I tightened the drag and the 40lb power pro had taken all it could. I was very impressed with how the penn fierce 5000 and 11ft beefstick handled the fight tho. The rest of the day went good we caught some spades, ladys, 1 blue, and 1 spanish (lost a couple more on the gold spoon). Dad and mom had a good time and thats all that really matters.
The shark had two large dorsal fins that were close together so i think it was a nurse shark. Any other ideas on what kind of shark it could have been?
