Default Pensacola Beach 6/8

Got out on the beach at the white sands condos around 6 am. Using pompano rigs with a 3 oz pyramid sinker. Frozen sand fleas. First pompano hit about 0630. It was a nice fish. Fought it for a bit then as I got it real close to landing (I could see it), it turned and made a run out and broke my line. Took the rig and sinker with it. I was surprised and really bummed. Almost immediately I got a hit on the other pole. Successfully landed a 13". Such awesome fish!

What size line were you using. A bit unusual for a pomp to break a line?

X2 here! Something wrong here. There's probably some bad line involved.

Check the guides on your rod. There may be small nicks in them which will damage your line. JMHO C2

My theory is the drag may have hung up on that reel. The big one pulled out line once or twice but when he turned and really hit it - it seemed to me the reel did not allow line to play out. Happened so fast. Maybe some sand got in there or something. I rinse my stuff off with fresh water every day. I have it on my list to tear that reel down, clean and lube. I'm back in TX now.
