Default Navarre beach 3-19

Took the wife to the beach around 4:30. Set up by 5:00 and fished till 7:00. Caught 2 whiting and one keeper pomp. Lost a stud when he jumped after initial hook up. Felt heavy too....I pinch down all my barbs and some times it happens. Caught on peeled shrimp and sand flea fish bites.

Nice quick haul.

I tried using sand flea fish bites for the first time the other day, i normally use pink or orange shrimp and have had some success but nothing hit the flea. Question though, how do you rig it up? I will either double hook an inch long piece or slide a chunk of shrimp on the hook and tip it with a 1/2 in piece which helps to keep the shrimp on a little longer. The latter outproduces by far but just curious how others are using em.

I hand tie my own pomp rigs....15 lb. floro leader. Smallest hooks I can get away with. Small pice of peeled shrimp with a small fish bite holding the shrimp on. I think the pink shrimp is the best color as well....

Yesterday i smoked my batch of whiting that had been brining for about 36 hours.

The simple brine was sugar, salt and some old bay seasoning. Fish were rinsed and the put on the smoker for a good part of the day.

Some will be eaten as fish candy, the rest will be mixed into a dip.
