Default Missed Big Black Drum, 2 Pomps and a Pelican

Knew Sunday was gonna be a little windy but thought we’d give it a try anyway. Got to the beach around 10:00 am. Wind was probably between 15 – 18 mph. Before we even had everything all set up with all the lines in the water had a hit on the first rod with a 13.5” pompano. Great start! Maybe wouldn’t be so bad after all. Next couple hours wind got progressively stronger with blowing sand getting in everything!! Surf was strong but sputniks were holding. Got kinda hard to see any hits but 2 hours in one rod bend over and never came up. Worked him for about 15 minutes trying to tire him out and get him to shore. Just as he got to the surf the line broke. Darn!! We saw the top 3 to 4 inches of a black drum at least 3 feet long. Before we could get out there to try to get him in he was gone. Missed him!! Next reeled in a very large pelican that got tangled in the line. Managed to get him untangled without getting bit!! Finally decided to throw in the towel after wind gusts had to be over 25 mph. When we reeled in one line it had one catfish and one whiting on it. Another line had a 15.5” pompano on it! Couldn’t even tell with wind and waves pulling on lines. Thanks JC.
