Default First outing to FL gulf coast (Pompano)

Yesterday, my first day ever fishing the Gulf Coast, was a rich and rewarding experience. I started the day off in the Perdido area with Grouperking and had a blast. We only caught 1 fish but I learned a lot from Russ. He is a great guy.

Yesterday afternoon I decided to try the Florida side(closer to navarre). We started about 230 and it was slow for awhile. I had one hit around 300 pm then quiet again til 410 pm but there was a good evening bite from 410 to 515. Ended up with 5 catch and release Pompano from 12 to 13" to the fork. I didn't see any cuts or structure so I just chucked it just on the other side of the bar. Every hit after the first one ended up with a pomp on the beach. I caught no other fish besides pompano.

Very nice , fast learning student. What was your choice of bait?
There are by far my favorite fish to eat. Great job again!!

If Russ taught him anything I'm guessing it rhymes with Bish Fites

Thanks, Destin pompano doesnít like fish bites. Or at list myself havenít had any luck in the past. When the water gets cold it seems that the only bait works itís freshly peeled shrimp.

In cold water the long lasting fish bites dont dissolve well. They are meant for warm water. Try using the fast acting for cold water (under 65F)
