Default Crazy Pickens afternoon

Headed out to Pickens for more pomps this afternoon after all the good luck yesterday and got my buddy (who I finally got to try fishing saltwater for once) to tag along. Got lines in the water around 4 and started hooking up on bluefish. We could see schools of pompano right at the edge of the sandbar (water is crystal clear and no surf) so we brought the lines in a little closer and snagged us a little one. Get the line back out and the biggest rod bows over hard. We figured it was either a ray or bull red so I let my buddy reel it in and have the glory of his first fish. Well of course Murphy's law has to come into play to shut down the fun and we land a juvenile loggerhead. Had to get some help from the rangers but were able to return it safely. Made for a hell of a first fish!

Pretty cool, I've never seen someone catch a turtle from shore. I never doubted it could happen just never seen it

Glad you got it released safe

It's very rewarding when you catch a pompano, nice job.

Love me some fried turtle! Seriously I have had a couple turtles run into my line and get snagged and quickly released. Of course my daughter liked catching the sea turtle more than pompano. Its my favorite shore fish and I will trade flounder for pomps!
