Default Bait and tackle shops along the coast

I know that many anglers who plan visits to the coast look to forums like this one for information. Here's a shout out to the local bait and tackle shops I have visited over the last ten years from Gulf Shores all the way to St. George Island. Almost without exception, these small business owners and their employees have been more than helpful in offering useful tips and suggestions. I have learned things I would have never known if I had shopped at some of the big box stores. Example: A great shop near Navarre suggested I fish in the undeveloped area (a state or national park I believe) west of the bridge because there has been less beach/sand work done there and thus more natural cuts in the bars. Great advice because it was there I caught my personal-best red. So if you are not local, like me, consider spending some time and some money in local bait shops. A win-win.

There is almost no comparison when it comes to the knowledge and helpful nature of local shops and chain stores. I could go on and on about personal experiences and spend a lot of time on a soap box. But I'll leave it simple and say that local shops will always get my business before one of the big stores. Whether it's right here at home, or when I'm traveling somewhere.
