Default 7-29 Destin by The Swamp

The gulf water was brown with light algae and 1-2 ft waves.
I fished from 2-3pm and from 5-6pm
I saw zero tiny fish in the shallows.

I used two rigs, pictured below.

The rig with the clark spoon I got out to 100 yards by walking out to a shallow sand bar and casting from there. I reeled it back fast and got no bites. My arms are sore from all the casting by the way lol.

The rig with the pink things...I think it's a pompano rig? I put one sand flea on each hook launched it out to 100 yards from land, kept the line taught and waited. One catfish bit...but I don't want catfish...just skipjacks or pompano.

Another fisher suggested I cut a chunk of catfish and try for shark, but my 20 pound line and tiny hooks seemed too light so I passed on that idea.

Thanks in advance for any help as to what I am doing wrong.

I agree there is way too much going on there. For the spoon, I would just use a 40lb fluorocarbon leader connected directly to your main line without a swivel. I use 40lb so I can land blues and spanish or other fish that have teeth. No need to have the extra weight and all the other stuff in my opinion.

The bottom rigs also have way too much going on. I will post a link below for a simple double dropper rig. I tie my own with 20 lb fluorocarbon or mono. I usually use a pink bead and sometimes a yellow float. Some days fish hit the ones with floats over the ones without, other days its the opposite.

I forgot to say I use small circle hooks on my bottom rigs. The fish will hook themselves and its usually a nice clean lip hook set.

You probably needed that extra weight on the clark spoon because it is really more of a trolling spoon than a casting spoon. You can find several other models, like a Hopkins spoon, that are much heavier for their size and can be cast without additional weight.

Ok. Casting spoon vs. trolling spoon. I'll look into that.

For now, I learned how to tie a pompano rig (I think) and this is what it looks like. At the moment I only have some treble hooks so...three sand fleas? lol
