Total Noob. Headed to Dauphin island
I'm from Toledo Ohio and am heading down to Dauphin island for a week starting 7/25. I am used to shore fishing up here on lake Erie but haven't the slightest idea on how to surf fish in the ocean. I have my rod and reel but that's about it. I have watched some YouTube videos and read a couple articles, but thought the best advice would be found here. I am looking for any information about what tackle to use (hooks, sinkers, line), any pro tips about beach fishing or anything you guys might think is helpful. Any information would be amazing. Thanks!

Stop at Jemisons Bait - just before the DI bridge. They will know how to rig you and will advise you on what fish are being caught...and where...and what bait to use.
Trout, redfish, flounder, ground mullet, shark, drum, and many other fish are being caught from the beach. Jemison will know the latest and freely share.

Overkill gave you the best suggestion for traveling anywhere and wanting to fish. I always go into a local tackle shop, talk with them and buy some bait. They will give you more specific info than a book. If you have time and money, hire a local guide.
