Default Surf rod advice needed

What is the best all around length surf rod for fishing panhandle area?
Please recommend specific rods in the $75-130 range.

Thanks!

It depends on your cast.

I like an 8-10ft spinner. Anything bigger and the line speed ends up cutting my trigger finger. I generally get the best cast out of an 8ft until I bought my most recent rod last year. A Penn Prevail 10ft. They run about $120 and I like mine alot.

Many can get longer casts out of a longer rod, but I cannot. It does not suit my casting style. I bought a 13ft several years ago and could not cast it further than about 40-50 yards. With an 8ft, I can get 80-100 pretty regular. With my 10ft, I can get about the same, but with less effort. I need to work on it more this year. Also, the longer rods will get your line further above the breaking surf. You also need to consider the casting distance that you need for your area. Casting 200 yards will not do anything more for me at me location that 100 will. Actually, I usually only fish from 40-60 yards out.

For me a 10'-12' rod is what works best. I like ugly sticks, for the money you can't go wrong. Very tough and can take a lot of abuse.

Do you recommend the medium or the medium/ heavy rod?
