Default Surf Fishing Advice

Hey guys,
I'll be down in Ft Morgan the first weekend of May for a bachelor party. I am bringing a 10 ft surf fishing rod and would like to know what type of rigging and bait I should use. We will have a group of guys just hanging out on the beach, so really just looking to catch anything, even trash fish. Thanks in advance!

I like to use a pomp rig with a 1-4 oz pyramid weight depending on the surf. I used to buy mine, but they are cheap and easy to make yourself. When I'm bait fishing I usually make a couple extra when I break off. It doesn't take long to make them and you don't have a bunch of line in your tackle box taking up needed space if you make them on sight.

Here's an easier, shorter verson, but I like the kid's version better.

If you don't want a big mess, get you some fishbites. I've used only the shrimp and bloodworm. Didn't have luck with the bloodworm, but the shrimp works great in the surf.

If you want to be more active take a 7', or whatever you prefer bass rod and some spoons, jigs and soft plastics. If there are trout, spanish or reds you may get into those. Bait fishing is ok, but fishing topwater and jigs in the surf is a blast when the fish are biting.

As always, make sure you rinse everything off with slow fresh water every time you go back to the house.

Pick up a couple of double-drop rigs from any tackle shop or Walmart, #2 circle hooks, 1-4 oz pyramid sinkers, a cup of sandfleas or fresh dead shrimp and you are in bidness. Make about a 3.5' - 4' rod holder out of thick-walled PVC. Cut the bottom at a slant with a hacksaw so it's easier to push (or pound) down into the sand.

Thanks guys! I will try both of these setups and probably take a bass rod as well. I appreciate the help.
